Supplier : Team ENGiNE Rlz date : 18.10.2008
Packager : Team ENGiNE Archives : 27 x 15 Mo

I say sort of becuase its actually been nuked.

[NUKE] [ Adobe.Photoshop.CS4.Extended.Read.Nfo-ENGiNE ] [ homemade.iso.fromthe.trial.7z.no.autorun.included ]

The nuke in this case is not saying the release doesn’t work but its not an actual ISO. This version should still work until there is a proper release for all of you out there that want to have this right now.

As a note many people are having problems just before it actually installs it says please insert “Photoshop CS4 into drive”. To fix this simply copy the installation files to the hard-drive and install from there.

Conservatives pledge to reintroduce copyright reform

Personal, Technology News No Comments »

The Conservatives are promising to reintroduce controversial copyright-reform legislation if they are re-elected, according to the party’s official platform released on Tuesday.

“A re-elected Conservative government led by Stephen Harper will reintroduce federal copyright legislation that strikes the appropriate balance among the rights of musicians, artists, programmers and other creators and brings Canada’s intellectual property protection in line with that of other industrialized countries, but also protects consumers who want to access copyright works for their personal use,” the platform document says.

“We will also introduce tougher laws on counterfeiting and piracy and give our customs and law enforcement services the resources to enforce them. This will protect consumers from phoney and sometimes dangerous products that are passed off as reliable brand-name goods.”

The Conservatives’ previous copyright-reform legislation, Bill C-61, which died on the order paper when the election was called, was released in June to a wave of criticism. While a number of organizations that represent copyright holders, such as the Canadian Recording Industry Association and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, praised the plan, it was roundly criticized as unfair by consumer advocates, artists, privacy watchdogs, education groups and other businesses.

The legislation proposed hefty fines for people caught downloading copyrighted materials but also made it illegal for consumers to work around locks — known as digital rights management — placed on media.

Minister of Industry Jim Prentice said the reforms struck a balance between the needs of copyright holders and consumers, but critics said a number of loopholes, particularly the digital locks provision, skewed the rules heavily against average Canadians.

“There’s a fine line between protecting creators and a police state,” Liberal industry critic Scott Brison told CBCNews.ca at the time.

Prentice was also criticized for not consulting consumer groups in drafting the legislation and was accused of caving to lobbying by the U.S. entertainment industry.

Facebook protest delayed legislation

The Conservatives had planned to introduce the proposed legislation last December but backed off after its purported details were leaked. A protest group on social-networking website Facebook, started by University of Ottawa internet law professor Michael Geist, drew tens of thousands of members within days of launching, forcing Prentice to retreat.

On his website two weeks ago, Geist challenged election candidates to sign on to a pledge dedicated to consulting Canadians in drafting new legislation and in supporting balanced copyright reform. As of Tuesday, the entire Green Party, one-third of the NDP and about 15 Liberal candidates had signed on.

Geist reiterated on his blog on Tuesday that the Conservatives’ approach to copyright reform is not balanced, a view shared by the more than 92,000 members of his Facebook group.

“Bill C-61 did not strike the appropriate balance and tens of thousands of Canadians told Harper just that over the summer,” he wrote.

The Conservatives also touched on a few other technology, telecommunications and science issues in their platform. The party plans to prevent cellphone companies from charging for unsolicited text messages, and it intends to introduce anti-spam legislation.

The platform also pledges to strengthen the newly created Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

“We will amend the Telecommunications Act to strengthen the power of the Commissioner of Complaints for Telecommunications Services, including the creation of a code of conduct for wireless services. We will also create a compliance and deterrent power that allows the … [CRTC] to block [unsolicited text message] and similar unfair charges in the future.”

The platform document also said a Conservative government would make further investments to internationally recognized science and technology projects in Canada.

I guess this is just another reason NOT to vote conservative. This shows the lack of understanding the party has for regular people and these issues as well as how they are in the pockets of the Canadian Recording Industry Association and the Entertainment Software Association of Canada since this does nothing positive for anyone but them.

Installation Of Windows Live Messenger Beta

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

I decided that I would give Windows Live Messenger Beta a try today since it is fairly far along in the beta cycle now.

The first step is to download the public beta client from the Messenger Beta homepage. When I was installing it, it told me that it failed to install WLM and gave me the option to try again. I tried again and each time it downloaded new things, eventually installing WLM successfully. Odd, but it’s a beta right?

After it’s installed I get to see the pretty new interface…

Once signed in there are tremendious differences in the interface.  Rather then me explaining them I will just show a screenshot.

After exploring it a bit there are some aspects I don’t like.  Namly, advertisements.  This is where A-Patch comes in.  I downloaded the newest A-Patch.  After installation of the A-Patch, no advertisements and the interface is a huge improvement.

Warez Scene Member Sentenced to 18 Months Jail

Scene/BT No Comments »

A member of the pioneering warez group aPOCALYPSE pRODUCTION cREW (aPC) has been jailed for 18 months. Barry Gitarts, also known as ‘Dextro’, was sentenced after he was convicted of Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Copyright Infringement. Thus far, there have been 15 convictions of aPC members.

aPOCALYPSE pRODUCTION cREW (aPC), was thought to be first organized ‘warez‘ group to coordinate the pre-release uploading of mp3s to the Internet. Founded in 1997 by members known as acid^rain and Viper, aPC’s forté was the pre-release of music CDs which they obtained from music industry insiders and magazine workers. The group was raided as part of Operation Fastlink.

According to evidence presented at his May 2008 trial, Barry E. Gitarts, aka ‘Dextro’, operated and financed a server based in Texas which was used by aPC to store thousands of music files, movies, software and games. The New York resident was convicted of Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Copyright Infringement.

On Friday, Gitarts, aged 25, was sentenced in Alexandria federal court to 18 months in jail for his role in aPC.

Another ex-member of aPC, Jacob Stahler, aka Lunatik, was on the witness list at the May trial, and there has been speculation that he testified against Gitarts. Stahler himself was also convicted of Conspiracy to Commit Copyright Infringement, but was later sentenced to just 2 years probation.

So far there have been a total 15 criminal convictions of aPC members, including that of Mark Shumaker of Florida (aka ‘MarkAlso’), a previous leader of the group who already admitted criminal copyright infringement back in 2003.

Part 1 Of My Trip To Casa Grande, Arizona

Personal No Comments »

Since I am sitting in the Philadelphia airport not doing a whole lot of anything I thought I’d take this opportunity to rant about the first leg of my trip. The flight was from Toronto to Philadelphia on US Airways. What I learned from this is that US Airways is quite possibly the worst airline in North America. What I can say, is that it’s the worst airline that I have been on. The previous worst was United. United has its issues, but they are not quite as bad as US Airways.

Why do I say that US Airways is this worst? The first thing that I noticed was that they charge you for any checked luggage. I brought one suitcase and a laptop bag. They charged me $15 for my checked luggage as it’s their policy to charge for all checked luggage. This is ridiculous especially when I can just pack a giant carry-on and then they put a tag on it at the airplane and place it with the checked luggage anyway. Thankfully I just put it on the corporate card and will submit it with my expenses.

The next thing I noticed was the terrible condition of the plane. It was a very small plane, but this is expected as its only a regional flight. What is inexcusable is the condition of the seats especially the tears in the fabric that are present all over the plane.

To go along with the cheapness of US Airways is the fact that they did not have complimentary drinks as every other airline I have been on has. It was $2 for pop, water, etc. and 7$ for beer and wine. It’s the little things that make the difference with the customers and this was one of the things that did it for me.

The last thing was the complete lack of motivation by the staff. The airline attendant seemed lazy and was almost uncomprehendible when speaking on the PA system. It was as if she didn’t know what to say or perhaps she just didn’t care, which I think is more like it. The pilot had the same problem as her when speaking. On the positive side they didn’t mind when I wore my headphones during takeoff and landing which I am pretty sure is against FAA regulations but whatever.

Continued when I have time…

How To Sync Your Google Calendar With Outlook

Personal, random No Comments »

I thought it would be neat to be able to sync my Google calendar with my outlook calendar so I did a quick search for a program that would help me do this. I found that Google actually has an application built for this purpose. It’s conveniently called Google Calendar Sync.

This program is very easy to use. Simply download the application. Once it’s installed, you are met with the following screen:

Google Caendar Sync Setup

In the Settings window, enter your email address and password and select the Sync Option you prefer. Read about each Sync Option.

You’ll also be able to set the time interval for syncing to occur. Please keep in mind that 10 minutes is the minimum time interval allowed.

After the initial set-up, you can access the Google Calendar Sync Settings window again by double-clicking the calendar icon in your Windows System Tray.

Installation is simple as that.

One important thing to note is that if you have multiple calendars set up in Google, it will ONLY sync the default calendar. In addition, there currently is no way to change your default calendar. This means that I had to copy all the information from my secondary calendar to my default for it to synchronize properly. After this change its been working flawlessly.

Elite Torrents Admin Gets 18 Months In Jail

Scene/BT No Comments »

The United States Department of Justice announced today that Daniel Dove, a former administrator for Elite Torrents, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, after which Dove will serve three years of supervised release (probation), and must pay a $20,000 fine. It’s been almost two years since the first conviction against a former Elite Torrents admin, and the punishment in that case looks positively inviting by comparison; Grant Stanley, then 26, was sentenced to five months of jail, five months of house arrest, three years of probation, and a $200 assessment. Quick, kids, which one would you pick?

Dove appears to have received a harsher sentence than Stanley due to the nature of his relationship with Elite Torrents. While Grant Stanley was an administrator for the group, and clearly benefited from years of free movies and music, Dove was directly involved in operations that kept the torrent network running. According to the prosecution, Dove both recruited members with extremely high upload connections and ran a high-speed server for the purpose of distributing pirated content out to the members of this group. Dove’s activities, in other words, were crucial to the continued existence of Elite Torrents, and that probably merited a bit of special punishment in the government’s eyes.

Prosecutors allege that Elite Torrents had some 125,000 members at its height, and shared approximately 700 movies which were collectively downloaded 1.1 million times. It’s too bad there’s no system for distributing jail time, probation, and fines—if Dove could tap that user base of 125,000 people, he’d end up serving around 6.3 minutes of jail time, 12.6 minutes of probation, and paying just 16¢ of that $20,000 fine.

As a former member of ET, this story particularity hits home. I respect what they did for bittorrent as it was one of the greatest sites of the time. Its just a shame that copyright infringement gets more jail time then many more heinous crimes.
